Mahalo to HGEA for inviting me to speak at their Statewide Educational Institute Day held at Waiākea High School. I had the chance to thank the many principals, vice principals, educational officers and assistants who keep our schools running, supporting our students, and nurturing the next generation of leaders 👏 ... Happy #DigitalLearningDay! 👩‍💻🤳

As more of our lives move online, digital education is essential—not just in classrooms but for all our residents. I met with Daniel, one of the many Digital Navigators based at our libraries, helping residents use technology to connect, learn, and grow.

Whether it’s setting up an email account or learning how to use a new device, the Digital Navigator program is a great way to build tech skills and receive free, one-on-one support. With our Digital Navigators, every day can be Digital Learning Day.

To learn more, call your local library branch or visit librarieshawaii.org.

Today I had the opportunity to celebrate @techsavvyteenshawaii as a recipient of the Spectrum Digital Education Grant 🎉💻

Tech Savvy Teens is truly inspiring. They’re equipping middle and high school students with essential tech skills and empowering them to turn around and support our kūpuna with phone and tablet help, device setup, email support, and more. These are the everyday digital skills that keep us connected to family, services, and opportunities.

As we work to close the digital divide through #ConnectKakou, it’s community nonprofits like this that make real change happen — meeting residents where they are and helping ensure everyone can thrive in today’s online world.

Over the weekend, I had a great visit to the Honolulu Zoo, learning about the work our zookeepers do and meeting some of the animals that call the zoo home 🦁🦏🦒

This zoo has a special history — it’s the only zoo in the United States gifted to the people through grants of royal land from a sovereign kingdom. Over a century later, it remains a special place where ʻohana can connect with and learn about wildlife.

Mahalo to the dedicated zookeepers who create healthy, enriching environments where animals can thrive, and to @honoluluzoo for being an important pillar of community and learning in Hawaiʻi.

Last week, I had the opportunity to visit KualoaGrown at Kualoa Ranch and learn more about their extensive agriculture program. In 2024 alone, KualoaGrown produced more than 168,700 pounds of locally grown food, including a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, tropical flowers, and five types of animal protein, including over 60,000 oysters! 🦪

Mahalo to KualoaGrown and Kualoa Ranch for continuing to support Hawaiʻi’s agricultural future through conservation efforts and partnerships, including collaborations with College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience at UH-Manoa and the 4-H Program. These partnerships play an important role in educating the next generation about the importance of agriculture, farming, and ranching in Hawaiʻi so that we can strengthen local food production and support our agricultural community.
