On March 7, Ka Ipu Kukui Fellows met with Lieutenant Governor Shan Tsutsui and other lawmakers in the Lieutenant Governor’s conference room where they discussed topics ranging from Hawaii’s tax code to the role of an elected official.
This month, the Fellows have been studying governance. They came to Oahu to tour the State Capitol and observe the legislative session in the House and Senate Chambers. This gave the students ample opportunity to ask legislators penetrating questions regarding specific policies and other issues.
Ka Ipu Kukui Fellows is a year-long program designed to train community-identified future leaders. It was conceived to promote and develop future leaders through a community-based program designed to address planning for Maui’s future.
