Students Bring Awareness to Tsunami Readiness

NOAAHONOLULU – Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui delivered remarks on tsunami awareness at the NOAA Daniel K. Inouye Regional Center.  He also presented awards to the 2nd annual poster contest winners.  Thirteen-year-old Leya Leliaert of Kapolei Middle School and 8-year-old Saxon Okamura of Kahala Elementary School were present to receive their awards.   Nine-year-old Cora Fernandez of Emmanual Lutheran School and 17-year-old Alohalyn Epejo of Molokai High School were also winners of the contest.

April is Tsunami Awareness Month in Hawaii.  This month was chosen to honor the victims and survivors of the April 1, 1946 Tsunami that originated from the Aleutian Islands.
