Honolulu – Lieutenant Governor Shan Tsutsui served as the honorary chair of the 20th Annual Oahu Heart & Stroke Walk, which was held at Kapiolani Park. The event was chaired by Rick Blangiardi, General Manager of Hawaii News Now.
There were approximately 4-thousand participants, a great way to help the Heart Walk celebrate its 20th birthday in Hawaii.
“In my role as Lieutenant Governor of the State of Hawaii, I appreciate this opportunity to take a step towards improving the health and wellness of our families and communities,” said Tsutsui.
Heart disease is the number one killer of all Americans and residents of the state of Hawaii and more deadly than all forms of cancer combined. Fifty-seven percent (57%) of Hawaii’s adult population overweight or obese and one in three children in Hawaii are also diagnosed as clinically obese. Obesity is a major preventable risk factor for heart diseases and stroke.
