MAKAWAO — In observance of Memorial Day, Lt. Governor Shan Tsutsui delivered remarks at the Memorial Day Ceremony held at Makawao Cemetery.
“This year, we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. And although the Vietnam War remains a controversial matter, what is undeniable is that we, as a nation, are committed to paying tribute to the more than 3 million servicemen and women who selflessly served our country during the war. The Vietnam War spanned several years and touched the lives of so many soldiers, as well as their families and friends,” he said.
There was music, a floral tribute, a 10,000 flower drop, color guard, a gun salute and the playing of taps.
Before the ceremony, the World War II Veterans Memorial was dedicated, which sits between the Korean War Memorial and the World War I Memorial at Maui Veterans Cemetery in Makawao.
