Throughout the month of May, Lieutenant Governor Shan Tsutsui attended several May Day celebrations, beginning with Kamiloiki Elementary School, located in the heart of Hawaii Kai on May 3. There, surf was up in East Oahu as some students were “hanging ten” in their performance. He then traveled to the Island of Hawaii and was captivated by the talented students of
Laupahoehoe Community Public Charter School on May 8. This year, their performance was dedicated to ‘Umialiloa, an alii from Waipunalei with many admirable qualities who excelled in surfing and held surf competitions at Laupahoehoe Point. On May 10, the Lieutenant Governor was impressed by Kainalu Elementary School’s May Day Queen Trinity Asing’s hula.
