Tsutsui Ohana Helps to Revitalize Historic AreaPosted on Mar 1, 2014 in Featured, Latest News, Main
IAO VALLEY — Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui, along with his family, lent their hands to Iao Valley’s loi when they participated in the LOILOA Project, which revitalizes and reinforces the holistic connection between the land, spirit, and body by providing a range of hands-on, educational native Hawaiian culture and practices.
Its secondary – an equally important purpose – is to instill the Hawaiian concept of mālama (to care for) to participants in the project and/or visitors to the site and that we all have a responsibility to take care of the places we chose to visit and/or to make our home.
The Tsutsui ohana joined the Positive Outreach Intervention program, or POI, a voluntary program offered to youths who are first-time offenders, in the loi. The Lt. Governor offered some encouraging words to the youths about staying on the right track to success.
