Hawaii Veterans Treatment Court Graduation

Lt. Governor Chin addressed the graduates at the Fifth Graduation Ceremony of the Hawaii Veterans Treatment Court.   The Hawaii Veterans Treatment Court was initiated by the First Circuit Judge Edward H. Kubo, Jr. in 2013.  The specialized court began with three defendants and has grown to nearly thirty defendants today as more and more attorneys submit applications for their clients to participate in the program. The defendants selected to participate in Veterans Treatment Court have all served in the U.S. Armed Forces and have experienced difficulties acclimating back into society. Many have mental health issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder, and the majority struggle with substance abuse as well.

Congratulations to all of the graduates for their hard work and on achieving this wonderful and well-deserved accomplishment.  After all that they have endured and persevered through in order to complete this program, their commitment to treatment and recovery is an important first step in what Lt. Governor Chin hopes will be a long and fulfilling journey for the rest of their lives.
