Governor’s “Cabinet in your Community” on Maui
Continuing with his commitment to sustaining a non-Oahu-centric Administration, on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, Governor Neil Abercrombie, joined by Lt. Governor Shan Tsutsui, held the Cabinet in your Community event at UH Maui College’s new Ike Lea Auditorium. The evening was moderated by Leslie Wilkins of the Maui Economic Development Board (MEDB).
The Administration was represented by Department of Agriculture Chair Russell Kokubun, Budget Director Kalbert Young, State Energy Administrator Mark Glick, Department of Hawaiian Home Lands Chairperson Jobie Masagatani, Department of Health Director Loretta Fuddy and Deputy Director (Environmental Health Administration) Gary Gill, Department of Land and Natural Resources Chairperson William J. Aila, Jr., Department of Transportation Director Glenn Okimoto and Deputy Director (Airports) Ford Fuchigami and Deputy Director (Harbors) Randy Grune.
After welcoming and introductory remarks from the Governor and Lt. Governor, the Cabinet members introduced themselves and briefly outlined their respective jurisdictions.
Later, members of the public were invited to participate in breakout sessions that focused on areas and issues of importance, by Department. Issues of focus were based on those identified by Maui legislators and community members prior to the meeting. Lively and productive discussions were engaged in by the Cabinet members and the community. Additional questions and issues that were not addressed that evening were also submitted to the Governor’s office for follow up.
