It was an all-star cast as students participating in the After-School All Stars showed off what they learned in the program during its official kick-off held at Keeau Middle School on May 7, 2013. Lieutenant Governor Shan Tsutsui was among several officials who attended the celebration.
The event celebrated the national program’s Hawaii chapter’s first expansion to a neighbor island since the program began on Oahu four years ago. Today, the program also exists at Keaau and Kau middle schools and Pahoa Intermediate.
Recently, Lieutenant Governor Shan Tsutsui launched an initiative called R.E.A.C.H. — Resources for Enrichment, Athletics, Culture and Health — an after-school program for middle and intermediate school students. Similar to the After-School All Stars program, R.E.A.C.H. aims to engage our youth in a broad base of programs and activities, creating a healthy and safe environment for students to thrive in every single aspect of their lives.
